It’s that time of the year! Crazy temperature changes, drastic cold nights, and lots of viruses going around. If you happen to catch a cold, don’t let that keep you from missing work! Here are six hacks on how to fight off a cold while you work:

1. Jack Up Your Zinc Intake

Whether you would rather take supplements or simply find Zinc naturally in foods, research has shown that taking zinc when you have a cold can reduce the duration and intensity of it.

2. Reduce Stress

I know, this is hard to do when you’re at work! However, before you come in to the office in the morning, take some time to meditate or relax. High levels of stress can really affect your immune system, therefore making your cold linger around for a longer period of time.

3. Drink Water- LOTS of it!

Buy a huge water bottle and drink water constantly throughout the entire day! Water acts as a natural, powerful cleanser. The more of it you drink, the faster you are flushing out that cold!

4. Eat Yogurt

For your mid-morning snack, make sure to include yogurt along with your fruit. The probiotics in the yogurt will help strengthen your immune system, and therefore allow you to recuperate faster!

5. Skip The Workout

Though you may want to “push through the pain” or go “sweat it out” rest is crucial when trying to fight off a cold. If you want to make sure you don’t call in sick tomorrow and are good to go ASAP, skip the gym this evening and watch a movie in bed instead.

6. Garlic – For As Many Meals As You Can!

Garlic is often overlooked, but it is definitely one of the most powerful foods you can have when trying to fight a cold. Whether you include it in your soup, or along with your grilled chicken, try to have as much of it as you can! Garlic is packed with antioxidants to help you boost your immune system.
